Plagiomnium rostratum 400x

Inspired by the microscopic structure of plant cells, particularly those of Plagiomnium rostratum (moss), this piece explores the hidden geometries of the natural world. Cell membranes, internal structures, and repeating patterns inform the murrine designs embedded within the glass, translating biological forms into a contemporary composition.

Created using vibrant green Bullseye glass, this bowl is made from hundreds of individually hand-pulled and cut vitrigraph murrine. A central element within each murrine references the chlorophyll found within plant cells, adding another layer of biological detail. The murrine are carefully arranged and kiln-fused into a seamless form, creating depth and subtle movement within the glass.

The surface is sandblasted to a soft matte finish and each piece is cold-worked and hand-finished. Entirely handmade in my North Yorkshire studio, every bowl is unique.
