Hand-Pulled Vitrigraph Murrine Glass
Vitrigraph murrine is at the heart of Harbour Art Glass. This intricate glassmaking technique involves layering coloured glass before drawing it from a kiln into a long, patterned glass cane. Once cooled, the cane can be sliced into individual murrine elements, revealing detailed patterns within each piece.
I create my own hand-pulled murrine in the studio before carefully arranging individual sections into patterns and compositions. These are then kiln-fused to create bowls, vessels, dishes and sculptural glass pieces.
The process combines traditional glassmaking ideas with contemporary kiln-forming techniques, allowing me to explore repetition, colour, pattern and the natural structures that inspire my work.
